I did use an existing disused 30A breaker. Bought a box w/NEMA R outlet, 10' 8ga wire & conduit, 50' NEMA extension cord, & an adjustable 24A charger for $468. It adds 15 to 18 miles an hour, so no issues charging overnight, and no excessive load on my wiring.

"using" the brakes is different & distinct from "maintaining" the brakes, which would imply the act of performing maintenance on them, which can only be done while they're not being "used". And - lol - you don't use the brakes to start, you use them to stop...! Sorry it was right there...

Took maybe an hour, hate to admit the bulk of it I could only find on amazon. If I can find the same thing elsewhere, I'll easily pay 10, 15% at least more to not use amazon. This would easily pass inspection had I pulled a homeowner permit. All I hardwired was the outlet, all else NEMA plugs.

I certainly never wrote or implied that you said they were bad. What brake maintenance did your EV require?

Now, if you think you shouldn't be doing wiring yourself- YOU'RE RIGHT!!! It can kill you. Of course the larger the scope of work the more the electrical labor is going to cost, but the equipment is very price accessible.

It cost me less than $500 (well shopped) to buy everything needed to wire a level 2 charger 75 ft away from the main panel on my driveway. A 30A breaker, like for a dryer or a stove, should give 15-20 mi an hour of charging, and would be very unlikely to trigger the need for a whole panel upgrade.

The brake problem to which you're likely referring is a unicorn - very rarely there are issues b/c the brakes get used so INFREQUENTLY. Swapping out pads & rotors in several hundred thousand miles is not only unlikely, but far more agreeable & cheaper than regular brake maintenance on an ICE car...
