The gentle rumble of distant dub thunder. https://www.rob-chapman.com

Why aren't more articles being written called Why is Raye the greatest thing to hit pop music since like possibly I don't know forever.

I notice an old habit from the other place has really started to creep in here. The one where you repost an obnoxious headline and go LOOK AT THIS LOOK AT IT! Really adds to the sum of human happiness and sets my day off with a swing that.

Just watched that Monty Don tribute to Geoff Hamilton that I recorded last night. What a lovely eulogy from one kindred spirit to another. I always knew about Geoff's 'left leaning' politics as MD called them. He was a real gardeners man of the people, pro organic, anti fashion whims. Top man.

Melody Maker small ad 1970. This still gives me sleepless nights.

Never mind the poetry, Philip Larkin was way ahead of the game when it came to tech.

The Kinks don't get enough credit as musicians. See My Friends is so understated. Everyone just keeps up that drone with minimal development. It would have been so easy after that middle 8 for Dave to let rip with a solo but no they just keep that circular riff going. Game changer of a record.

The Byrds I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better enters the Fab40 this week and was in the Top 10 and on TOTP the week I went back to school. It was the first time most of us saw THOSE glasses. I capture this moment in Ad Lib. I meant every word of it, especially the bit about going back. Peak me. At 10!

August project. This spare tomato plant, despite sitting neglected and root bound has started producing so I've potted it on with a generous helping of mulch. (Wipes hands on trousers and gets up creakily, Monty Don style.) "And we'll be back in a few weeks to see how it's getting on"

Butterfly watchers. How's it been in your garden? We've had a pleasing resurgence of painted ladies this year and plenty of cabbage whites doing the intercourse all over our kale.

That's shallot. These will be pickled onions by the Christmas after next.

And so another promising post that asks you to think about the nature of what endures and why dwindles into inconsequentiality and anecdote. I never mistake social media as a good substitute for being in an actual room with a bunch of like minded spirits and thrashing shit out over a dram or three.

One thing a roving camera does though is rob you of one of the joys of going to a classical concert which is sitting there and deciding who is really hot.

Apart from that so so Bolero which would have had the Apaches howling for retribution this is turning into a damn excellent Prom.

Oh now this is pretty damn fine. Who is the guitarist? He's magnificent.

I've heard better versions of Bolero than that I have to admit. Brass was taking some right liberties. Couldn't imagine bending Jane Torville over backwards to that.

I am determined to enjoy this Prom despite the announcer and the general air of dumbed down that now seems derigueur in these broadcasts

I'll throw U2 into the discourse too. They won't mean shit in 30-40 years time. A few fathers might hand on a few records to a few sons, but after that ptoof, gone. #Bonio

I just replied to a drive by rando didn't I? Damn! I keep making that mistake.

100 years ago Rudolph Valentino was the most famous film star on the planet. Hardly anyone knows who he was now. In 100 years time the same will be true of Elvis Presley.

G-Rated Sex Jam

Post your hottest music take. Mine is New Order is better than Joy Division.

Coming to terms with the fact that I'm never going to write my novel about a 70s footballer called Kenny Badenoch who after shining for St Mirren as a teenager is signed by QPR and after a couple of promising seasons falls for the lure of London nightlife and the dazzle of one too many white lines.
