I feel very lucky that as a kid in the late '60s I got to experience Playland. My friends and I loved the Fun House most of all and we went there often; but by the '70s we were a bit older and it was no longer "cool," so when Playland closed in '72 it didn't make me nearly as sad as it should have.

San Francisco had amusement parks for roughly 80 years straight, from Woodward's Gardens in the 1890s to Playland-at-the-Beach closing in 1972. Since then, nothing. We have gone nearly half a century without a single coaster on the skyline, and somehow we act like this is normal.

This aligns disturbingly well with that thing I read awhile back about young women disgusted by their boyfriends, who didn't wipe their stinky asses because it's somehow gay. 😬

Ben Collins

Oh my god the dietician who is telling everyone in the White House to only eat steak and sauerkraut doesn't wipe his ass.

I will probably be just one among many but I MUST tag @swilua.bsky.social for this wondrous thread 👍

When you’re reading a romance involving Fae bargains and you start to hear a sweet little distant melody chiming through the air… Then you realize it’s an ice-cream truck. Then you remember you live on a side street backed up against the woods and have never once seen an ice-cream truck here.

I have done drag exactly once, for a Halloween party decades ago; but this morning as I read about this my first thought was that if I was a Floridian I'd be inclined to parade around in lipstick and heels and a fabulous gown just on general principle.

BREAKING: The Eleventh Circuit, en banc, upholds Florida's anti-drag law, holding that it is neither unconstitutionally vague nor unconstitutionally overbroad. More to come at Law Dork: www.lawdork.com

Oh gosh, I've been catching myself doing this (or feeling an urge to do this) lately as well, for the same reason.

This isn't EXACTLY what I do these days, but it's close enough that I feel validated and less nuts. I often google endings of dramatic media so I can watch without feeling stressed by not knowing whether/how the conflict will be resolved. I didn't used to do this.
