I recall seeing Ds are actually punching decently above their weight in elections this century, considering the environment and electoral structure. If the opposition winning wasn’t such a cataclysm each time, they might be getting more credit.

Man, from afar, how OKC ever got what seems like such a decent mayor seems a minor miracle.

I think also banning electeds from trading single stocks or narrow funds is at least somewhat helpful and could be politically popular

As for event closures, I imagine Bway business owners that have the ear of state gov feel differently about temporary closures for lucrative events than they do about permanent closures that would require at least some change to their day-to-day operations.

The state flexing is BS or my saying they are is BS? It is about power. The feds have large, but limited, power over the states. States have larger, but not unlimited, power over municipalities. If both federal and state power are against them, cities are going to have a real tough time.

I hope so. We have limited ways to compel them to take actions they don’t want to take, but the merits of making this area safer for visitors and residents have never been more clear.

The BIDs are sort of voluntarily taxing themselves like an HOA to pay for things they want. We can’t redirect that money but could possibly make a new special tax district like the USD. The TDZ tax money and state road right-of-way are fully state controlled and we need to convince them change it.

I hear you. Unfortunately, things that the city leaders just do that are against state law will get quickly reversed and can additionally lead to cancellation of any new complete streets or all access corridors. Always open to being wrong and/or new strategies to make good things real though.

A lot of folks are sick of it and it’s not that complicated. But it’s TDOT that has to agree to do something and they should be hearing that from the public.
