PhD in Sociology and my work focuses on lesbians, mental health, representation, social theory, social change, and ethics! Love tv and queer dance parties🦩🏳️‍🌈 She/they

The thing I love most about this show is how unabashedly it states that women are the loves of our lives. Men can be useful, if rarely, but it is in our friends that we find meaning and true love.

Sharing to simply state: I will NEVER vote for a candidate with anti-trans and/or anti-queer platforms. Never. Doesn’t matter who the opponent is. And a party that embraces candidates like that won’t get another dime from me. So you know, powers that be, make your decisions wisely…

in the wake of Amy Acton's anti-trans turn in Ohio, I will re-up this @bostonreview.bsky.social essay where I make the case that abandoning trans rights is BAD POLITICS for Dems, as it will turn away their own pro-LGBTQ base w/o winning over a single new voter... www.bostonreview.net/forum/how-no...

New research from a team I assisted in examining how land grant scientists navigate competing scientific responsibilities. This research expands on Pielke's scientific roles describing the three cultures of ethical thought: arbiters, advocates, and brokers. link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Scientific Objectivity and the Pursuit of the Public Good - Science and Engineering EthicsScientists are increasingly expected to not only produce objective science but also to use their science and expertise to support the public good. I have enjoyed watching this cup on Telemundo more than any previous cup despite not speaking much Spanish. The delight is more palpable and the love of the game overrules capitalism (mostly). Also, I find it adorable that one commentator calls Mbappé, Señor Kylian

JavaconLeche

Gooool for TELEMUNDO who not only refuse to run ads during the mandatory hydration breaks, but also straight up just announced that hydration breaks are necessary because of dangerous heat caused by fossil fuel-driven climate change. Bravo Telemundo. #worldcup #futbol

My phone is always in my hand or on my person, for that reason it doesn’t come into contact with my money. Any purchase, big or small requires the laptop.

JP

Somebody said millennials usually use their laptops (instead of smartphones) for major purchases, including booking flights. I can’t stop thinking about this.

Looking at what the state prohibits educators from teaching (something no state should have the power to do) informs on truths they don’t want you to understand.

Zachary Levenson

Yesterday, those who teach Intro to Sociology at Florida colleges (as opposed to universities) received a ready-made curriculum from the state and were ordered to teach it. Yes, you read that correctly. The *state* is enforcing a curriculum on college profs, complete w/ the following restrictions:

I don’t know who needs to hear it, but “Atmosphere” by Taylor Jenkins Reid is 1000% worth the read. 3 words: Lesbians in space.

Never mind the jobs you had, tell me five classes you took in college: 1. Women in Imperialism 2. Women in the Modern Civil Rights Movement 3. Sociology of Feminist Theory 4. Anthropology of Gobal Gender Violence 5. Literature Seminar on Toni Morrison Totally why I’m the academic and person I am

I took a “Women in the Civil Rights Movement” course during undergrad that’s entire aim was to deconstruct this. It changed everything I thought I knew about organizing, the protests, and the way gender works in meaning making. High recommend learning about amazing women who made it all happen

KEW

Black women of the Civil Rights Movement are most often remembered in 3 ways: as part of a larger group (the Little Rock Nine); as isolated individuals disconnected from broader political strategy (Rosa Parks); or as wives of male leaders (Coretta S. King). afro.com/claudette-co... We can do better.
