it's funny going back to look at my old FFXIV character from when i originally picked it up. i love my dunce cap. i've made an Au Ra second character (forgot to screenshot but basically looks like the default), and i've stuck with the Arcanist role. because "book" is, still, the funniest weapon.

how long?

i’m working on translating the covenant/sangheili language in halo reach. translation is possible but it’s going to *suck* to explain. the biggest hurdle: it suffers from inconsistent audio direction; the actors struggle to keep phonetics consistent while trying to sound fluent. accents galore.

i still think about the movie Once *at least* once a month. it completely changed my creative process. anytime i catch myself stuck on finer details of my work, i think “what’s the shitty car speaker test for this?” rest in peace.

started playing ffxiv again since the first time i tried it in 2020. it’s a lot easier to get to grips with when you’re going at your own pace than when you’re being taxied around and encouraged to skip cutscenes. may have picked up the bug.

thought i’d watch a halo lore channel. their analysis of a multiplayer map started off interesting until i suddenly thought “this framing and contrast seems far outside this person’s wheelhouse, why do i feel like…” and then he did the “it’s not just x, it’s y” and suddenly it made sense.

in america, you can call the president out for their heinous crimes against children and he’ll shrug it off and play to cheers and laughter from the crowd and then you get to smile and shake his hand while accepting an award for doing so. this is considered humiliation.

everything i’ve seen about the halo remake is exactly what i imagine “use genAI to create the framework and then replace it with real assets” looks like in practice. the whole thing is completely, offensively flat; devoid of the original special sauce. and where it isn’t flat, it’s visual noise.
