very much agree. I am basically a professional tech-guy hater at this point so "backed by Andreessen" did not endear me, but this conversation really brought me around, and I think is worth giving a listen to before jumping to conclusions!

there's a political economy to this too: finance-driven AI (US), is first and foremost for maximizing speculative valuations for investors. The chinese are interested in actual usefulness, because say what you will about them, they understand use value

Ben GreenThis afternoon I went on BBC News to talk about the harms of data centers. Jim Messina responded by saying I “must live in a yurt in the woods” if I don’t like data centers. You know AI boosters are on the backfoot if that’s their best response. Apparently 70% of the country lives in yurts?
