I’m a broken record on this, but again: Senate Republicans oppose nuking the filibuster because they believe the 60-vote rule blocks many more liberal goals than conservative goals in the long haul. Liberals have come to the same conclusion hence they mostly favor nuking it.

Still a lot of IFs. But the stakes of this prospect are high. Fetterman's term expires in January 2029. Non-zero chance Dems pull off an upset this fall and flip four seats to win a 51-49 majority. A Fetterman defection could hand control of the Senate right back to Republicans.

Fetterman says he hasn't talked to Thune about a party switch. Asked if ditching Dems means becoming an independent or a Republican, he said: "We’re not there." Have Ds already crossed his line? He laments "the very anti-Israel party that we’re becoming." Thune says Republicans would welcome him.
