On the other side, Google has arguably the largest stockpile of AI compute in the world; they're usually selling it, not buying it. This is the first deal I'm aware of in which they're paying another data center operator for limited-term access. Why?

A couple questions raised by the deal: First, where is this compute coming from? The Anthropic deal was supposed to encompass all of Colossus 1, so is SpaceX also selling off Colossus 2 capacity as it comes online?
