Then there’s Texas prop 12

Prop 12… hell no… Alters oversight and appointment powers for judicial discipline. It weakens checks and balances.

Prop 11 Expands existing tax breaks for elderly and disabled. I think this enables further generational problems by giving those with economic prosperity a pass. This should be under regular legislative control.

Prop 10 exempts fire damaged homes from taxation and the only problem with that is again future flexibility otherwise of course, why collect taxes on a damaged asset.

Prop 9 Exempts up to $125,000 in business personal property. Good for small biz, it does erode tax base a bit.

Prop 8 Prevents any form of inheritance, gift, or estate taxation. This really only benefits the wealthy.

Prop 7 extends tax exemptions to spouses of disabled veterans after they pass. While that also creates similar inflexibility of budget I’m for it.

Prop 6 prevents Texas from ever taxing securities trades or exchanges. They want to give tax breaks to corporations and the wealthy.

Prop 5 narrowly benefits retail animal feed sellers. The is a door for policy capture. Could lead to preferential treatment and special interest groups could leverage this unfairly.

Prop 4 constitutionally dedicates billions in tax revenue for specific water infrastructure programs until 2047. Again this locks funds and creates inflexibility.

Prop 3 Empowers courts to deny bail under broad criteria for numerous felony offenses. Pretrial detention becomes easier to impose even before guilt is proven, undermining the presumption of innocence.

Prop 2 bans any state income or capital gains tax. This permanently removes an entire class of taxation from debate. If Texas ever needed to diversify revenue or respond to inequality, voters and legislators would be barred from even considering it without another amendment. Creates a dead hand.

Prop 1 Creates dedicated funds outside the general revenue fund that legislatures can’t easily reallocate. This limits budget flexibility for future representatives. It’s a “constitutional earmark” problem, locking money away in perpetuity reduces democratic responsiveness to changing public needs
