This should NOT EVEN BE LEGAL ANYWHERE.
BoltsPolymarket and Kalshi have disputed a warning from Wisconsin officials against betting on the outcomes of elections in the state, Wisconsin Public Radio reports:

Not pet -- have you been to a market in East or Southeast Asia? That's not to pet. Unless the internet obfuscated sarcasm. Which happens. You don't even have to go to Asia -- I've seen animals for sale in exotic places like St. Louis, Missouri.
Amy Maxmen, PhDThe lab theory is v hard to reconcile w/evidence: So, two (2 lineages initially) infected WIV researchers didn't infect anyone in their community or around WIV (invisible masks?). They went to the market to pet (?) mammals, left traces of SARS2, coughed on people. Then put invisible? masks back on.
Uh WHAT? "You need a doctor's note to prevent you from getting sick." www.somdnews.com/news/local/m...
Jesus Tapdancing Christ, we are getting what we deserve at this point. We just assumed that checks and balances would save us but forgot that we let him stack the courts. aje.news/3gxypy
Real class act. The USA is having a moment -- a long moment -- and it's frankly awful.
Dr. Jack BrownIs there a place for the F-bomb? Absofuckinlutely. Every damn day. But unless you're quoting someone else, the U.S. Senate Chambers is not the place for it. And *never* to attack a true public servant. This means you, Bernie Moreno.
I just subscribed, and you should, too! Marianne is an outstanding journalist! I've worked with her multiple times, and she always finds corners of the conversation others leave behind. Now more than ever, we need to put our 5 bucks+ toward indy journalism like this -- and Marianne is a great start!
Marianne Dhenin📣 I'm running a subscriber drive for the rest of this month. I want to sign up 40 more annual subscribers—enough to hire a freelance fact-checker to work on all of my original reporting. I'm offering half off annual subscriptions to help make this happen; that's $40 for the year. Will you join me?
Sobering read. "Sometimes the best way to protect a place you love is to leave it alone." I once asked Anthony Bourdain this same question: do you have reservations (sorry) about filming in Laos, and then Starbucks is on every corner? @michaelmann.bsky.social theconversation.com/i-cant-work-...
This was so helpful -- if you are taking airborne precautions or have long COVID, definitely worth a watch.
Public Health Action NetworkThank you to everyone who attended our last Zoom, with guest Amy Stewart, LCSW-S, on Stress Management and Being Air Aware. Amy's slides will be provided in a separate post, and we hope it provides you with the validation, support, and tools you need to recharge and continue. youtu.be/NIjgbVJ8aBM
In 1997, I went to North Dakota to learn more about Mandan and Hidatsa cultures. At the time, there were maybe 40 people left who spoke Mandan, 30 who spoke Hidatsa. The curator of the Knife River Museum was recording them for preservation. www.npr.org/2026/07/26/n...
I had to do a double take on that article -- couldn't believe anyone would actually pen that.
Gregg GonsalvesI urge people to read @colincarlson.bsky.social and @annesosin.bsky.social's threads on the terrible @theatlantic.com article on MAHA. I agree with everything they say and am so disgusted right now, I shouldn't post anything without supervision.
$40 for a year is an extremely good deal for this level of coverage. Marianne is so adept at looking for the people left behind in every other conversation and telling their stories. Like this article that spoke with disabled people trying to flee Hurricane Milton. atmos.earth/art-and-cult...
My subscriber drive is still on through the end of the month! I had several sign-ups yesterday, but I'm still a long way off from my goal of 40 new annual subscribers. I'm going to thread some of my popular stories here. Please help me out by picking at least one to repost. 🧵
