My dad fought fascism in WWII. I’m proud to be an anti-fascist & follow him today. Be fucking resilient. Find another way. There’s always another way.

I used to write letters and organize letter-writing get-togethers for Amnesty International. I will never forgive her for committing this foul thing.

Amnesty International correctly called out Rowling's transphobia. She threatened them in response. And @amnesty.org surrendered. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Every bit of this story is sickening, including the poverty of mind responsible for designing the ugly interiors that contrast so sharply with the timeless beauty of the exterior. Wealth is a cancer. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

“Corey Robin wrote…that conservatism…is fundamentally the defense of established hierarchy against threats from below...a reactionary movement defending power, privilege, & inequality.” By this definition many elected Dems are also cons, hence the DSA freakout benwheeler.substack.com/p/liberals-d...

Certainly this is a hopeful sign, when they start turning on each other like starving rats in a cage.

Taking a break from posting for a bit. Lots of things have combined to overwhelm right now. I need to breathe.

“…that gap tightens among voters in their 50s to a 12-point lead, and voters over 60 flip to Stevens by a 14-point margin, 53% to 39%.” People over 50 are gonna be the death of this country if we don’t fucking wake up.

Time & time again we hear “wastefraudandabuse” as reasons to deprive vulnerable people of medical care, but almost always the abusers are the providers that gov’t fails to vet, because it’s too busy building insurmountable barriers against those who actually need the services.

In 2020 as Kentucky faced a spike of deadly overdoses, @govandybeshear.bsky.social set out to help more people access drug treatment by loosening Medicaid spending controls. But as the costs piled up, so did the warnings that the system was being abused. @kentucky.com

Watching “Chernobyl” again this week, I remembered how it once seemed like the USSR was on a different planet than ours. Now I know, given the US show trials, prison camps, endless lying, & indifference to life that is our government, it can happen here. It can be worse.

The Fauci hearing perfectly illustrated how living through a once in a century pandemic somehow made Republicans far worse on public health. God forbid we face anything like covid again during Trump 2.0. There will be no Dr Fauci around to try to talk sense to Trump.

000

It would be good if people remembered these scenes: mass burials on Hart Island where many COVID victims still remain; mobile morgues for the overflow of dead spilling out of hospitals; hospital workers wearing garbage bags because there was no more protective PPE. Almost a million deaths in 2 yrs.

If this MFer can rifle through the private thoughts of a former public servant, no one in the legislator deserves privacy. We need dated photos of Mitch McConnell wherever he is right now, all the texts on Randy Fine’s phone, & the complete unredacted medical records of the President up to today.

Rand Paul loses it when Fauci's attorney tries to say something, and he eventually directs security to kick him out of the hearing room

010

This harassment and vivisectioning of a decent man’s private thoughts should be met with the kind of legal action that would render Rand Paul and his entire family paupers for a generation. How is this simply more fodder for front page clickbait?

There’s a lot in the Fauci diaries. Here’s my take. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/27/u...

Sinema and Manchin were bad enough. The sooner we jettison this guy, the closer Dems are to being free of human IEDs on the Senate floor.

After the display of belly-crawling we saw from the FIFA during the World Cup, I think we can put to rest the childish notion that sport is above politics and can bring the world together.

This is a great examination of the movie through the eyes of the translator whose Odyssey Nolan used. But if you want to see a Nolan work that is damn near flawless, rewatch The Prestige. (Bonus treat is Thom Yorke’s “Analyse” running over the closing credits.)

I wrote about the Nolan Odyssey for the LRB. I'll summarize some of my main points below, in case you don't feel like reading all that. www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...

Amazing to be in one’s 70s & watch the US have to rediscover the reasons why vaccines & safety regulations were created in the first place. The protected cocoon in which generations grew up, made possible by actions taken because so many who died before them, made us ignorant & careless & arrogant.

How can they have failed to immortalize this man in cinema?

Going full-blown Islamophobia now. I guess we all have to pledge allegiance to the state of Israel or we’re traitors to…America?

WATCH: Fetterman calls @abdulelsayed “anti-Israel and essentially anti-American” — yet again showing where his loyalties lie (hint: Not with 🇺🇸) Using our country as a shield for another country’s genocide is anything but patriotic
