Great piece on the largely imaginary shoplifting surge: I do think one thing the piece misses is that a bunch of major police departments started years-long work slowdowns in 2020 where they refused to do their jobs (often falsely claiming their hands were tied by woke prosecutors)

We are witnessing MAGA equivalent of destruction of Democratic Party through election of progressive Socialists. If you think this ends well for country, I believe you're sadly mistaken. Extremism on one side simply fuels opposite growth on other side. We need moderates.

This sentencing in contrast with the Jan 6 cases shows you what this country really is. Serve the prevailing political power, and you can do no harm. Oppose the power, and you will be crushed with overwhelming force, constitutional rights be damned.

Federal sentencing has started. Zachary Evetts was just sentenced to 50 years by Chief District Judge Reed O'Connor. Maricela Rueda was just sentenced to 840 months / 70 years by Judge Mark Pittman.
