Went to Palermo with two kids under five, missed a train to a day out by mere seconds, needed to feed everyone, dashed to the nearest unassuming restaurant near the station, had easily the best pizza in my life which cost the same as a meal deal and which I still think about at least twice a day.

Stephen Bush

One reason why inter-railing in Italy is such a delight is it is so hard to eat badly. For good and for ill, the meals I think about the most are in London, New York, Paris, but Italy is the master for “I had a meal in a small cafe in a tiny town/in a train carriage/a garage. It was 7/10.”

Happy Durutti Column day to those who celebrate.

‘Nolan has read at least the first line of my translation of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘖𝘥𝘺𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘺 into iambic pentameter. In one interview, he cited my version of it: “Tell me about a complicated man.” But I would be ashamed to have written any part of this script.’ New, by Emily Wilson www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...

Dream Warriors is legit one of my all time faves. Just a great example of how to expand a franchise while keeping it all fun (although its sequel, The Dream Master, probably has the best soundtrack of the series).

Johnny Mains

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET PART 3: DREAM WARRIORS was my favourite of the franchise. Chuck was a great director.

Quite an achievement, really, to get to the World Cup final as the underdog, to hold on for almost the entire game and then lose by a whisker - and still have literally everybody hate you.

Ah man, so unfair. I always loved how committed L7 were to the scuzzy rock n roll end of the grunge spectrum rather than pretending to be introspective - but also Finch seemed really thoughtful and interesting.

RIP Sam Neill - ages ago I got to write about one of my favourite films, In the Mouth of Madness, for @thequietus.com. Top tier performance, absolutely mental story. thequietus.com/culture/film...

Bought some Banana Dodgers -which sounds like an 80s euphemism for lesbians.

'Binface Truther' is pure Mark E Smith.

Here's something which makes me feel ancient: still having the residual memory of when internet explorer introduced the 'back' button and thinking it was a nifty idea.

Hard to believe but in the 1990s we had practically all our caramel unsalted.

That was like watching Uncut Gems.

Don't know if everyone appreciates how radical it is for Dinosaur Jr to have a song that has a weird title and not something like 'Hey there' or 'How's it going'.

Really lovely stuff - a wonderful love letter to Margo and to the oddly liminal suburbs. "The real suburbs are strange and surreal places... Without urban confidence or rural history to keep them in check, design taste goes wild here, from gnomes to flock wallpaper to word art."

John Grindrod

I've written a thing about Margo: the Surbiton sum of all fears open.substack.com/pub/johngrin...

Oh no! For a lot of people my age Doctor Who was, for many years, this thing which had once been a TV show you kind of remembered but was now a formative series of novels, and by circa 2000 Justin Richards seemed to have written maybe a third of them. Absolute machine.

Big Finish Insider

The Big Finish team were deeply saddened and shocked to learn of the passing of our friend and colleague, Justin Richards, who died peacefully at the weekend. Our sincere condolences go out to his family and friends. A full tribute will follow.
