My guess is this is a mistake, the visual ID questions are meant to be answered by an interviewer, and the others by you. You see this sometimes done with questions on race/ethnicity.

It's not against asking for help in any form. There are a million things no one would complain about ppl asking for - advice, connections, etc. The stigma is specifically around ppl asking for money for themselves.

Don't know. Story was pretty obviously NOT saying the kids were hers, but talking about them in a place that sorta implies maybe they were. Maybe she wouldn't take a maternity test, or the kids made not saying it a condition? I dunno.

Wouldn't say buried. I read that to mean: she told them she had two of his kids, NYT confirmed the kids were his, but couldn't confirm they were hers. Maybe they weren't allowed to reveal some info about the kids or something

I've not come across whatever scam this is... wonder what they intended to do. A lot of banks use ChexSystems to validate new deposit accounts. You can place a freeze with them - that should help.
