The mass shooting last night in Seattle is a tragedy that has become far too commonplace. I mourn with those who lost loved ones or were injured. Once again, thoughts and prayers are not enough. I will continue to advocate for policies that make communities safer and free from gun violence.

Federally-funded research helped to build the internet, GPS, and the vaccines that ended a pandemic. In Trump’s “golden age of science,” partisan officials will make decisions about who gets funding. What could go wrong?

At the same time, they are taking funding from our science agencies, including NSF, NIH, and NOAA. This is extremely concerning; science agencies do basic research and fund research at universities across the country.

Trump’s director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy came to the Science Committee and announced that the administration is shifting millions of dollars to “The Genesis Mission,” which Trump created by Executive Order with the goal of transforming research with AI. 🧵

Here’s a reminder: when we passed the big infrastructure bill in 2021, the grant funding went where it was needed - more than half went to rural areas and red-leaning states.

The corruption in the Trump administration continues. Oregon lost more than $400 million for projects that would make electricity cheaper and employ rural workers. 🧵

The Education Secretary says the Department shouldn't exist because it "doesn't educate a single student." Well, the Department of Agriculture doesn't grow crops and the Department of Transportation doesn't drive our buses or fly our airplanes, but no one is suggesting we get rid of them. 🤔

I joined my colleagues in calling on Acting AG Blanche to immediately rescind its opinion and reaffirm the Department's longstanding commitment to protecting the rights of Americans with disabilities.

But now Donald Trump’s DOJ’s has a new interpretation of the landmark case that will likely result in more people with disabilities being segregated from their communities and sent to institutions.

Since then, home and community based services have allowed millions of Americans with disabilities to work, pursue education, and participate in civic life.

In 1999, the U.S. Supreme Court held in the Olmstead case that people with disabilities have the civil right to live in the community rather than in institutions. 🧵

Students can’t learn when they’re living in fear. ICE raids and brutality have left many children afraid about their families and friends and themselves. I’m leading the Right to Learn Act with @chuygarcia.house.gov to protect public schools from harmful immigration enforcement activity.

Here’s a few things that happened in Congress this week.

ICE is lawless, violent, and harmful to kids and families. My legislation will take the $70 billion Republicans added to the bloated Department of Homeland Security budget and put it toward something that will actually help families -- affordable child care. #DaycareNotDetention
