Right! I grew up in a country with no for profit grocery stores. If that's the future, learn to love standing in line for hours, eat meat at most once a week, and forget about vegetables in the winter.

These people are on the left and the right. Actually we want some of these idiots to be on the left. One of the problems of the current situation is that a high proportion of a certain kind of idiot became Republican. Idiots will always be around. We need to split the idiot vote 50-50.

It is sort of like medication treating symptoms rather than underlying causes. It will lead to a worse situation when you inevitably have to get off the medication later on for one reason or another.

My prediction is that it may lead to somewhat fewer other grocery stores and create dependence on the city run stores. Then, in a few years, a centrist or right wing mayor will get elected (one will) and will close the city run stores, leading to a situation worse than what came before.

How many patriots are left? I guess we will see.

Anyway only 20% of workers in the US make 100k or more. Median (50th percentile) salary in Denver is 68k or so. For 100k in Denver you have to be in the top 30% or so.

I make 100k roughly. We have a 3 bedroom house and we have two cars. And my wife doesn't work.

Even today 100k is top 20%, not quite the "ordinary man" issues.

If he was "pulling six figures", he was way, way, waaay above the median. $100k in 1980 is like $400k today. That's top 1% salary.

The regular person (that electrician) at a small Midwestern town has more discretionary income now than in, say, 1980. Yet that same kind of person will now vote R instead of D. In a big east coast or west coast city, that kind of person is struggling more, and is voting D.

In the US, median disposable income doubled (inflation adjusted) from 1980 to today. Rent rose by 50% (inflation adjusted) nationwide. The places where rent rose faster (NYC, LA, etc.) skew heavily Democratic - more than previously. So that explanation for a hard right turn makes no sense.

I wonder what these people think of those who in the 30s said something like "the Jewish question is something to be resolved by Germans"
