A federal bill would let judges shrink mandatory minimums when a trial sentence looks like punishment for skipping a plea deal. But the real fix is trimming the mandatory minimums that make that gap possible in the first place. fairandjustprosecution.org/2026/07/why-...

Baltimore County's quick-build in East Towson was meant to slow traffic and reclaim space cut off by old rail and utility infrastructure. But the county installed new curbs at the old, wider radius before testing finished - locking in the old design www.smartgrowthamerica.org/knowledge-hu...
Rep. Sara Jacobs' bill would score security partners on governance, then set aid accordingly. She says Israel gets no exemption. But existing law already bars aid over rights abuses, and strategic allies rarely lose funding. It only matters if that changes. foreignpolicy.com/2026/07/20/u...

In the absence of new high end housing, wealthy people outbid the middle class for the best available existing housing and renovate it.
that even 0% inclusionary would not be sufficient to allow housing to pencil because of other mandates and costs. www.spur.org/news/2026-06...
ED1 is an opt-in program, not a mandate. Developers who choose this program are finding that the returns are better than those of alternatives. Why? ED1 allows you to build much more housing with faster review. Something market-rate housing doesn't always get. Moreover, ED1's affordability is...
Barbara SamuelsHonest question: How did for-profit developers finance 100% affordable projects w/ 8500 units at zero public cost? And why then do YIMBYs claim projects w/ as few as 10-20% affordable units wont pencil?
