The death of truth is the ultimate victory of evil (Mon Mothma, Andor). The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common (Adam Serwer). Sh*tposts and takes on politics, movies, culture, whatever.

Extensive war criming will not solve the problems of this war, it will just make them worse. Even if you get an Iranian surrender by Monday if they can’t export oil or get the mines out of the strait nothing is solved the average American cares about.

Somehow I don’t think the upcoming war crimes are going to help Trump accomplish anything. Does he understand once you blow up refineries they take months to rebuild?

Ellison piece is very good. My view is all those special purpose vehicles probably save Oracle from anything but embarrassment and a stock price hit if the bubble blows up but a lot of other businesses are gonna be out in the cold.

1/ I sorta look at this tool like I look at the AR-15. There's nothing wrong with owning one, but you need some kind validation first that the person in question has some sort of ethics and expertise with handling it. Releasing a feature globally without doing that is an obvious problem.

BREAKING: Google has rolled back its tool less than a day after it launched. Updated story coming soon.

The Epstein files are a great example of this in action. Trump has damaged a tremendous amount of his credibility with his followers by pretending he was ever going to tell the truth, the sort of credibility you need to keep Trumpism going.

5-FINAL/ Trumpism is about breaking shit and worrying about the details later, those details rapidly caught up with Trump in 2020, and there's a high chance a similar crisis unfolds all over again and diminishes the value and strength of Trumpism.

1/ Trumpism has absolutely been successful in ways short-term and long-term, but understanding what stuff has an expiration date is very important. The most successful aspect of Trumpism has been three Supreme Court seats. In the worst-case scenario, those continue to damage for decades.

Chris Hayes

Something I think that underlies a lot of debates within the Democratic party and center-left right now is whether or not you think Trumpism has been successful as a political and ideological project. (Not, obviously, whether it's been good or not).

1/ This is another terrible Tyler Austin Harper take, but I also think it fundamentally misunderstands “activity-based friendships.” In these friendships, the activity oftentimes is just a cover for being able to talk about your lives!

I find interesting but not surprising that Trump's actual health is a black box in his inner circle. There's maybe like 5 people who know what's actually going on, and none of them are talking.

5/ Whole passage is quite interesting. Trump is obviously sicker than they're letting on, he's taking some kind of medication that might really be aspirin, he's not sleeping well, his attention span is shot, he's not sleeping well. He has trouble focusing.

1/ This is actually worth the read for what it says and doesn't say. For example, Haberman's belief is that Trump's days are continuously unstructured, that it is difficult to hold his attention in meetings, and that he is increasingly reliant on visuals to understand the world.

I have to say I don't think AES or Stevens are as bad as their critics think. Feels like this primary discourse has degenerated because both sides feel entitled to a seat in a competitive primary.

NC: Cooper 10.4 (D) ME: Jackson +3.1 (D) TX: Talarico +2.7 (D) AK: Peltola +1.6 (D) OH: Brown +1.3 (D) IA: Turek +1 (D) Fox News poll puts Talarico nearly 3 over Paxton. We'll see how long that lasts. So far the polls have been really favorable for Dems.

The last nonpartisan poll with Paxton ahead was in June and had the race at 43-42.

51-48 Talarico oh my god. Idk what of the Paxton campaign functionally exists at this point, but they cannot be happy to see this poll.

I guess I have to say this don’t harass the owner of this take, but pretending hunting on private land is somehow out of step with mainstream Southern culture is also very funny.

Trump admin might kill what's left of broadcast TV/cable IMO. Very little incentive to keep this whole system going when you can stream.

Real tough break for the slaveowners. Lots of indignities suffered at the hands of the people you sold your properties to. Truly the Antebellum Gentry cannot fathom a system in which they are not feudal gentry forever and forever.

Anyway, the fact that Elon is pouring money into R+13 states pretty clearly suggests the internal polling isn't far off the public polling, and if 2026 voters who didn't vote in 2024 as a blue as they suggest running turnout ops in any urban area might backfire on them.
