Come on down to the mermaid cafe and I will buy you a bottle of wine

Because it was shared and discovered. It was a river you joined and then departed. A communal experience.

Brendel

It’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better

After years of telling myself I never would, I flew Frontier for the first time, expected chaos, and don’t get me wrong, you gotta read their T&C pretty carefully, it seems like no one onboard has ever been on a plane before, and I’d never go more than 3 hours but overall, totally smooth experience!

I don’t understand the type of person who would regard this as an issue, or even a threat, but they probably aren’t doing a great job helping the party either, so, works for me

I ultimately said nothing because it was in the context of us both being in one of my friend’s professional environments, but I was once feet from Gillibrand in a very small group, and boy did it take some effort to restrain myself from speaking up to her.

Julia Métraux

I was today years old when I learned that Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand attends a bible study group that teaches that Jewish people killed Jesus, which has been used to justify antisemitism and associated violence against us Jews.

I’d also sub in “cooler / kinder / more emotionally aware / etc.” All art is about reflecting humanity’s limitations as much as its triumphs

if I ever taught film criticism lesson one would be “you being smarter than the movie is not interesting to anyone”

Good to keep in mind for everyone who keeps insisting the MAGA threat will die out. New hateful idiots are born every day!

Raw Story

Concern is mounting among high-ranking Republicans that the next generation of conservatives consists primarily of "rabid" "idiot" Nazis, according to a new report.

Hope this means he licensed them elsewhere and the Henry Fool and Long Island trilogies will finally be back in print on Blu. Wasn’t that into his work when they first came out, got massively into it too late. For now, picked up the Blus I could.

How hard is it to just find a regular map of Africa

PBS News

The State Department said it takes "full responsibility" for "hastily" altering and then presenting a map of Africa at a global AIDS conference that mislabeled every single country it highlighted. An analysis by Reuters found a watermark in the map image that suggests it was made with OpenAI.

Number one topic in every office is always “I can’t believe it’s already [new month]”

Started to list but genuinely too many to count. I’m 40, I grew up when film availability was largely what’s on your shelf, so there are loads I watched 6+ times before I was 25…and then I lived another 15 years to watch them some more.

Philip K. Dick Trickle

Film you've watched more than six times with a gif. Hard mode: no Star Trek, Star Wars, LOTR, Marvel, Disney, or Ghibli.

The only legal communication between strangers on a plane should be “excuse me” and a motion towards the restroom

Hemant Mehta

Evangelist Whitney Lynn says she preaches on planes because she loves “a captive audience.” She's not alone. It's becoming a trend. If spreading your message requires listeners who can't escape, maybe it's not as compelling as you think. www.friendlyatheist.com/p/christian-...

It’s the freedom that comes when you have a more secure station in life than most contemporary film critics unfortunately do

Jessica Ellis

There’s a real strong sense of “because Wilson’s critique was mean, it’s not real criticism” and I beg you to read some of Ebert’s absolute explosions, sometimes toward filmmakers he otherwise loved.

It’d be easy to give Rob Tregenza shit for promoting every new project over thirty-plus years with “Godard said he liked me” but shit man if Godard even spoke to me I’d never shut up about it either
