At Wenlock Priory fragments of medieval tiles were collected from the site, jumbled up and laid out in the 19th century. Conservators explained to us that Victorian hard cement is unfortunately not good for preserving tiles. #TilesOnTuesday

Ancient bones discovered beneath a large stone slab in the former apse of the church during a 1958 restoration were sealed in a lead casket they were placed in the restored medieval shrine. Perhaps the saint’s original burial site.
