Anarchism. A Very Short Introduction (https://tinyurl.com/54r98nv6), Constitutionalising Anarchy with Ruth Kinna (https://tinyurl.com/4y9pn3v4 coming soon). Uni Exeter, UCU, HEC Rep. UCU Commons. DM me re anything UCU UK-wide HE. I’m your rep. #ynwa

I need to be clear that there’s no way a meeting of 707 people can be run effectively if you all disagree. So the work the dep reps have done this past week, the shift committee have put in, and the help of regional, meant that when we went to vote we knew it had mass support. Solidarity

I don’t think I’ve been blocked, no (thankfully!). Not sure about Cayce’s account here. I think he’s getting to the last few bits of the massive translation of System of Economic Contradictions, so maybe he just doesn’t have the bandwidth?

😂

And if you’d actually read any of Proudhon’s works you’d understand the full irony of arguing this

One fuels the latter, sure. But maybe social media isn’t the best place to test run arguments that need nuance.

I stand by that. You could have said ‘In W&P, Proudhon argued that the immediate abolition of slavery would do nothing for the material conditions of ex-slaves and so argued against it’, but you didn’t.

This isn’t the only inconvenient opinion in Proudhon’s writings. And plenty of hatchet jobs exist that focus on this sort of thing. It doesn’t take much brain power to express moral indignation about views you don’t like. It’s much harder to understand them in context and learn from that instead.

No one’s done that.

You’re just doubling down. I’ve made the points I need to make. Feel free to write a long, considered piece on Proudhon’s views on slavery. There isn’t one in English, so this would be a contribution of sorts. I didn’t feel anything would be gained from that. But maybe you do.
