I didn't even know Ithaca still had a king, much less that he was writing movie takes

To be clear, I’ve never heard her before this year so I’m not saying she’s FAKING an accent—if she were I assume there would be plenty of filé video to show it. For all I know she’s always spoken like that! It’s just not like anything I heard growing up

The UP accent I’m familiar with is more Wisconsin / “Fargo”-like but there may be others. But she’s from Rochester Hills & Birmingham, Detroit ‘burbs & again, who cares! It’s just weird to hear people not from Michigan saying, “Oh, everybody in Michigan sounds like her” bc it’s news to me

Michigan definitely has its share of accents! (Ask me to say “car.”) There are plenty of people from the north and the upper peninsula who sound like Marge Gunderson. But if I didn’t know who Stevens was, and you played me a tape of her, I honestly would not guess she was from Michigan.

I’m hesitant to comment on this bc I don’t care how she talks & it seems irrelevant to an election. But I grew up in SE Michigan… I never heard an accent like hers there? It sounds maybe like an exaggerated Chicago accent? I’m legit curious where it came from.

PS the SECOND most flavorful veggie burger I’ve had was this random-ass bean burger from the concession stand at a Brooklyn Cyclones game. If you go to Coney Island, see if they still serve it. Tell them I sent you! (They do not know who I am.)

As someone who knows this stuff, is there any logistical reason parties couldn't change the early states every election cycle, based on which swing states they want to promote strong candidates for? One of MI/PA/WI wd seem to make a lot of sense, maybe NC/GA swapped for SC, &c

Also the "If they only knew how hard people worked..." is a common gripe in Hollywood. Anyone who knows the biz knows that! But critics write for the show's audience, not for the cast & crew. (ofc theater critics hear this complaint 1000x more than the rest of us)
