Looking forward to kick starting #beesneedsweek2026 with @pollinatinglt.bsky.social and the City of London at this evening event discussing data and pollinators! www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/data-and-p...

A celebration of fantastic flies from @bbowt.bsky.social ⬇️👏🪰
Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust🪰 We’re celebrating the UK’s flies! Flies don’t always get the appreciation they deserve. They play hugely important roles in our ecosystems, but they’re also amazing in their own right. They can be beautiful, colourful and wonderfully weird.
A big day for PoMS today, with newly published pollinator trends based on PoMS survey data, and the publication of the PoMS Annual Report for 2025. See the thread below and download the Annual Report from ukpoms.org.uk/reports
UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH)New data on insect pollinators show a dramatic decline in hoverflies across Great Britain between 2017–2024. 📉 Around one third reduction in abundance & number of hoverfly species recorded as part of @pomscheme.bsky.social www.ceh.ac.uk/press/new-da... 1/ @jncc.bsky.social 🧪
Congratulations to PoMS partner @uniofreading.bsky.social for their impressive commitment to sustainability
University of ReadingWe’re in the world's top 100 universities for sustainable development for the 4th consecutive year. Have you done a ten-minute FIT Count for #pollinators during #InsectWeek? There's still time! See ukpoms.org.uk/fit-counts (but please take care during hot weather - FIT Counts can be done on flowers in the shade 😎 but if in doubt wait for cooler conditions)
FIT Counts: help us monitor pollinators | PoMSukpoms.org.ukRoyal Entomological SocietyYou don't need special equipment to enjoy #InsectWeek - step outside, explore your local area & create your own adventure 🐝 Turn your garden, balcony, school grounds or local park into an exploration zone with bug hunts, photo challenges & nature discoveries! Share your activities in the comments!
It’s #InsectWeek! Join the @royentsoc.bsky.social at one of their fantastic 5 City Hubs for 2026, featuring hands-on science and insect discovery. Watch this space for more from @pomscheme.bsky.social later in the week!
Royal Entomological Society🐝 This year, with thanks to generous funding from @biggive.bsky.social & @tnlcommunityfund.org.uk, #InsectWeek is expanding across 5 City Hubs, bringing free insect-themed activities directly into local communities. Wherever you are, there may be an Insect Week City Hub nearby! 🔽
This will also affect the PoMS website tomorrow evening. The FIT Count app will still be working but it won't be possible to upload Count results until the maintenance is completed (same will apply to iRecord).
UKBMSPlease note - Indicia systems, including the UKBMS website will be offline from 5pm tomorrow Weds 27th May until midday Thurs 28th May for planned essential maintenance. Thanks for your patience!
Great to see @whitmuir1.bsky.social out on their @pomscheme.bsky.social 1km square survey for May 👏 We’d love to see more images from volunteers, given the long awaited sunshine ☀️🐝 Which insects are active in your square?!
Blueskylpomscheme.bsky.socialWhitmuir EstateForecast predicted a good day for @pomscheme.bsky.social visit to my square. Wind stronger and cooler than predicted. Brown Hare showing interest. At least one Hoverfly about. Spider reading text about exlusion. Glyphipterix simpliciella doing great job keeping averages up. @ukceh.bsky.social
Happy #WorldBeeDay! 😊🐝 We’re proud to be working with @jncc.bsky.social and other partners to track how bees and other pollinators are faring across the UK ⬇️
JNCC🐝This #WorldBeeDay, we’re celebrating how the UK Pollinator Monitoring Scheme brings people together – from volunteers & landowners to scientists – to track how pollinators are faring. This shared effort helps protect nature, our food & the environment we rely on 🌍💚 @ukceh.bsky.social 🧵
Thanks to Guy Singh-Watson for including FIT Counts in the latest newsletter from Riverford, describing the counts as "a welcome opportunity to slow down and take in the natural world". Read the full article at wickedleeks.riverford.co.uk/opinion/news...
Despite the cool temperature today, bees were enjoying the Hawthorn flowers. Hawthorn is one of the FIT Count target flowers - read more at ukpoms.org.uk/hurray-for-h...

Great to catch up with so many of our brilliant volunteers at last night's 1 km square survey webinar - almost 2,000 days of survey visits since we started! A few squares still available to adopt - if you live near a red square & want to know more please get in touch ukpoms.org.uk/contact
NEW: a "Quick Guide" to FIT Counts (pdf) is now available from the PoMS website, providing a summary of how to do the counts and how to recognise the insect groups. This is a welcome addition to our more detailed guides, which are of course still available as well! ukpoms.org.uk/news/quick-g...
Not a #pollinator story, but a wonderful example of long term monitoring and dedicated observation from @richardkbroughton.bsky.social giving fascinating insights from this very special ancient woodland (and the Marsh Tits song is worth a listen 🎶) #naturalhistory @ukceh.bsky.social
Richard K BroughtonHe's done it! At last minute, our oldest Marsh Tit in the Monks Wood study has found a new female after being widowed, and they're breeding in his territory. Their nest tree is hidden at the back of this pic. He is exactly 11 yrs old this month, one of the oldest on record in Britain. #ornithology
As PoMS approaches its tenth year of monitoring #pollinators it is awesome to see what has been achieved by @ukbms.bsky.social, its partners and many, many volunteers over the last 50 years, and also sobering to see how many species have declined in that time
UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH)Extraordinary dataset of 44 million+ records of UK #butterflies collected by 782,000 volunteers in the past 50 years shows many species are in long-term decline eg Pearl-bordered Fritillary. @ukbms.bsky.social is run by @savebutterflies.bsky.social, UKCEH, @btobirds.bsky.social, and JNCC. 🧪 1/
