You have to squint pretty hard to see an aging effect. The cohort differences are a bit larger. My @MULawPoll data has more cases/year since 2021, so more per cohort. GSS has much longer time frame & # cohorts, 1972-2024 but fewer cases/year..

My data is US only. I thought about shooter drills too, but the decline is there for the 1960s and 1970s cohorts too, who didn't have shooter drills.

Several folks ask if this is recent. It isn't. The GSS asks a different question and gets lower trusting responses, but the decline in trust across birth cohorts remains. This goes back a long way in cohort time.

In my data from 2021-2026 there is no general increase by year except for the two youngest cohorts, which would be where I'd expect to see age effects. So some age effects for youngish, or confounded with period effects. Even so the 2000s cohort remains at the bottom and the 1990s is second lowest.

For the second day in a row the public agrees with the Supreme Court on 2 of 3 major rulings. The Supreme Court, on June 29th, allowed counting of late arriving ballots, rejected an attempt to fire a member of the Federal Reserve, but allowed the president to fire heads of other independent agencies for any reason. The public agrees on the first two, but not on the third. Link below--
