#earlymodern always a treat to write about Frances Wolfreston’s almanacs in the context of blanks, standing on the shoulders of Morgan, Newcomb, and Lindenbaum. Such a privilege having been able to work with them and the myriad other almanacs at the Bodleian.

#earlymodern Writing about blanks in almanacs and how they are annotated and especially love this tortoise appearance (this is a 1649 Lilly almanac in the Emerson Collection)

#earlymodern delighted that this is now out it has been a privilege to work with such fine scholars and a tribute to Betty Hageman who commissioned the volume

#earlymodern so sad to hear of the death of Betty Hageman a pioneer scholar of early modern women’s writing and a generous soul; I was so grateful for her kindness when I had a short term fellowship at the Folger — the folger should name a chair in the readingroom in her honour.

I’m writing a slightly narrowly focused essay on Mary Wroth ‘s last two poems (really one poem) in Urania 2 and am wondering where to send it. It would be right for Sidney Journal but I’ve published there recently. Any suggestions?

I am 72 and have had my fair share of academic ups (and quite a few downs eg redundancy) but missing out on both the fellowships I applied for this year does hurt I hope they went to ECRs especially the big one. #earlymodern

We don’t appreciate Melbourne’s bay nearly enough: we went to Sandringham on the train and walked to Mentone (forgive colonialist names)

#earlymodern anyone know of a bed trick that failed. I’ve checked all the plays in Dessens list and can’t find one I’d love to know if there is the equivalent of Angelo appearing on stage yelling ‘that’s not Isabella!’.

#earlymodern does anyone have access to the mysteriously almost invisible William Halstead’s Shakespeare as Spoken vol 4 . I’m interested in 19 th century cuts to All’s Well but can’t ask interlibrary loans for it unless I have page references
