Absolutely nailing the early 80s horror vibe almost masks the fact that very little happens for the majority of the film, and that which does is fairly predictable. Fun to watch but it’s a short stretched out 90-odd minutes. The House Of The Devil (Ti West, 2009)

I have one of the gold leaf versions of this print. A lovely thing and hardly haunted at all.

An exciting flurry of orders through this afternoon, thanks everyone! In low stock news, I now only have four copies remaining of Queen of the Field! Next reprint in the next month or so, probably... 👁️ slipperyjack.bigcartel.com

Whenever I walk along the Royal Mile in summer it amazes me to recall that I used to live on the Royal Mile in summer and somehow managed to never do a murder.

Absolutely aghast to hear of Prof Marguerite Johnson’s sudden death last week. A superb classics scholar in her own right, I knew Marguerite from her vivacious hosting of online events for The Last Tuesday Society. Always enthused and supportive, I shall miss our little chats before a talk. RIP.

I didn’t have a phone for a good part of my childhood (by which I mean a landline as mobiles didn’t exist) so I had to divinate where my friends might by by throwing Lego into a circle of sherbet.

meeting up with your friend before cell phones was crazy. to call them you had to remember numbers. if you didn’t know the numbers you had to open a book. if you passed either of those trials then you have to face whichever family member picked up the phone. like forget it man let’s just be enemies
