bp selling its North Sea production assets is just a continuation of business. Here's a main list of previous UK production assets that bp operated, and government in place when they disposed of them: (apologies if I have missed any)
Ewan GibbsOil lobbyists and SNP and Tory politicians will tell you BP is leaving the North Sea due to tax levels. That isn’t a credible explanation. In reality it’s down to the relative profitability of production and geology.
A gas pipeline had not been inspected for 24 years delivered propene at a higher that normal pressure for 3 hours. 3.7 tons of propene leaked between 20:00-21:00. Supply was not shut down the pipe until 23:40. Explosions at 23:57 - 32 killed, 321 injured #OTD en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Ka...
Glasgow Drygate 9th October Fantastic venue. (Obviously the band is great, but you all know that)
Sid GriffinOctober sees the Long Ryders tour in support of their album, High Noon Hymns, finally hit the United Kingdom. Due to the success of High Noon Hymns the demand for concerts was such the Long Ryders are doing a longer than usual British tour. The tour will have more than a few surprises❗️
Predictable, yes. UK Government consequence. No. bp looking at global portfolio and selling off old things. See also Gelsenkirchen refinery...
Energy VoiceBP sale a ‘dismal but predictable’ consequence of government failure, GMB says #energysky
There is your real reason.... "Its North Sea business produced 117,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2025, a small fraction of the oil giant's 2.3 million barrels of daily production." For reference, bp's Forties field, alone, produced 500,000 barrels per day at its peak.

@dangrey.bsky.social That's Aberdeen a buzz (and lots of my friends) What out for Kemi's reaction.....
PegdegOf course not really a surprise. Mixture of old & medium aged assets. Operating the UK's largest field (albeit viscous sticky low pressure hard to extract oil). And with current high oil and gas prices makes things slightly more attractive (prices can go up & somes down). Right time for new CEO
