“There’s the people who want OpenAI and Anthropic to own everything, and then there’s everybody else, including customers.”
OpenAI to merge with Hugging Face. New concern to be called Skynet.
Joseph MennThis is amazing. OpenAI was internally testing a program in cyber capabilities. The program escaped containment and broke into Hugging Face so it could score higher. Zero-days, the whole schmear. Yikes.
Looks like we might need a social media ban for parents.
Gavin JacksonThe rollout of high speed internet in Uruguay worsended early childhood development. But not because the kids spent too much time in front of screens, because the parents did. cepr.org/voxeu/column...
Enjoyed talking with Joy LaClaire on Forthright Radio about the role of political elites vs fossil fuel companies in shaping American public opinion, among other things.
As both a democracy defender and a practical pessimist, it is clear that I am no fun at parties. @soumayakeynes.ft.com trenchant analysis of the identity politics of billionaire taxes.
Soumaya KeynesWho wants to tax a billionaire? My attempt to anger *everyone* in a fraught debate www.ft.com/content/bf18...

How should regulation balance considerations of efficiency and what citizens in a democracy want? What's the biggest problem in the US today -- the concentration of economic power or over-regulation? Justin Kempf and I debate these questions on the latest episode of Democracy Paradox. 👇
Words fail me here. Turns out the deep state took down Nixon, not Republicans in Congress asking ‘What did the president know and when did he know it?’
Aaron RuparJD Vance: "I think Nixon's historical legacy is enjoying a bit of a renaissance, and deservedly so. I joked that if Watergate happened tomorrow, it would be like a 12 hours news story. The idea that it took down a presidency is crazy."
Befuddled by why Graham Platner's voters shrugged off allegations and massively supported him in Maine's primary? Or puzzled by why elites on this site spend all their time fulminating about his texts rather than his policies? Either way, this oped in today's Guardian will hopefully shed light.
