Nothing to do with Pirro and Burgum. It’s just that there are consequences for lying to a judge, so Pirro’s team has to admit that the vandalism didn’t exist and all the charges were invented. There are no consequences for lying to the public (Trump rewards it) so Burgum continues to do so.

Helen Kennedy

Oh my. Pirro v Burgum is on people. (Cannot see how they both stay in their jobs)

! again. Very similar to UK numbers (despite lower amounts and higher background wealth) with a similar split in both nations by gender and age, but not by political lean. Don’t buy the smug marginal wealth increase explainers - no change across socio-economic status.

The latest from YouGov (n ~ 16k). If you had a choice between instantly receiving $50,000 or flipping a coin for a 50% chance to win $1 million, which would you pick? 65% in the US select the $50k, 25% take the coin toss. yougov.com/en-us/daily-...

iOS today telling me about the Makerfield by-election as a key variable for GBP prospects. Feel Apple could do something about the algorithm here.

Judging from their international diplomacy, it increasingly looks as though Trump's version of the US State Department isn't evil so much as ... deeply stupid? Anyway, here's a slide they showed a couple of days ago at a global conference.

An odd phenomenon. One that, more than anything else, pushed my smartest contemporaries out of the sector. Celebrated nonetheless: the more vicious and bad faith the attack, the cleverer the attacker shows themselves to be.

People who think Emily Wilson is being mean have clearly never presented a paper at an academic conference

Iranians hate American freedoms. Also bombing a primary school and killing 120 children. But mostly the freedoms.

Matt Novak

Some guy on CNBC just said "bad actors" like Iran and the Houthis just "don't like our way of life" so they're driving up gas prices. I don't think I've heard "they hate our way of life" since the George W. Bush era.

Oh god, I've just realised that anyone will be able to run their own poll aggregator model in the next US Presidential election, just by asking Claude to stitch together some plausible methodology to give any answer desired. The noise will be unbearable.

This looks ... right? As with the last headliner, it's a counterexample rather than proof, but - again, as I understand it - it's not a counterexample you could find without a lot of deep insight into the problem.

holy shit jacobian conjecture down with a hand checkable counterexample
