Liz Oyer says she's received deaths threats since testifying against Todd Blanche's nomination for Attorney General — and that Missouri's Josh Hawley and Eric Schmitt have helped fuel the violent threats against her.
While we are in this Greek Mythology moment, may I remind you that Emma Thompson is adapting Pat Barker’s take on The Iliad, and she’s struggled to get it made bc the focus on what acts of war against women and survival thereafter actually look like (the core of Barker’s narrative) is too intense.
"The belief in educating the electorate dates back to the Founding Fathers. Thomas Jefferson believed education would protect the new country against “degeneracy” and “tyranny.” "Moreover, he believed education must be free" @danrather.bsky.social Hasn't been that for a long time ☹️
Excellent point about BBC's Burnham interview
Robert SaundersIt's noticeable, too, that there wasn't a single question on the climate, at a time when Europe is experiencing catastrophic wild-fires & record-breaking heat. And the cost of doing business is also loading these companies with debt so you can pay yourself a big dividend, ship production out to China, use poorer materials, and leave the initial company bankrupt in Chapter 11. There was a time when people tried to grow businesses instead of asset strip them
The problem with a lot of companies (particularly IT companies) is that being caught doing something against what they claim (like dishwasher safe when it isn't) the financial penalties are so small, its just the cost of doing business.
"The Trump [admin] hates academic science funding, full stop. They hate where that money goes, and they hate who it goes to. They want to keep all that money for themselves, to hand out to favored cronies who can help them get elected and to steer yet more money and more power back into their hands"
Astronauts returning from long missions report a “jet lag of the self”: “a sense of watching their own lives from a half-step outside the frame”. (I feel that with the 10-years of construction noise going on outside the house for the Purple Line).
Recent developments in #QuantumComputing technologies make it timely to ask whether trainable models can also make use of quantum effects such as superposition and the intrinsic uncertainty associated with quantum measurements
