This is exciting news! I appreciate residents in the 1st ward voting in Ald. La Spata's participatory budgeting process to make this happen. On the other side of North Ave is the 32nd Ward, where I'm seeking to enact a similar process that gives our residents a voice as well.

The first all-way pedestrian crossing phase outside of the Loop is coming to Wicker Park at Damen/North/Milwaukee. It will dedicate a full light cycle for pedestrian movement

Cutting funding for evidence-based models like a housing first approach to homelessness is cruel and will exacerbate our already limited resources. We must continue to fight this.

I agree with this- we face a desperate shortage of affordable housing, and to solve this, we need to not only put more money into affordable housing, we also need to make it easier and more cost effective to build. www.chicagobusiness.com/opinion/comm...

Opinion: Building more affordable housing requires better governmentIf Chicago is serious about building more affordable housing, we must also be serious about building a government process that delivers it efficiently, Ald. Matt Martin writes.www.chicagobusiness.com

Zohran Mamdani (NYC 2025), Katie Wilson (Seattle 2025), Nithya Raman (LA 2026- advanced to general), and Janeese Lewis George (DC 2026) all embraced progressive YIMBY messaging. It's popular, and candidates in Chicago's 2027 mayoral and city council elections should embrace it.

The Washington Post

Democratic socialist Janeese Lewis George is leading in the Democratic primary for mayor with 64% of votes counted. She’s a third-generation Washingtonian with working-class roots. Here’s what else to know about her:

Chicago needs a citywide network of protected bike lanes. We shouldn't have to rely on ward by ward protections, which results in both inequitable infrastructure distribution and safety gaps on longer trips.

Re-upping this Politico piece now that Raman has made the runoff in LA - Left YIMBYs are the future! www.politico.com/news/2026/03...

The left’s housing civil war is endingFor a decade, progressives argued over whether greedy landlords or blocked construction caused the housing crisis. Zohran Mamdani and Nithya Raman say the answer is both.www.politico.com

I'm curious to learn more about this proposal but this is... not true, a quick google search could have told you this is a standard legal term

Chicago Tribune

From the Editorial Board: A proposed crackdown on landlords would make Chicago’s housing problems worse.

Do the voters clamour for a return to Madigan-Burke-Daley tied politicians with a long history of throwing red meat to conservatives in between cutesy videos about balanced budgets? I'm not so sure, but good on Susana Mendoza for finally making it official that she's trying again

Be sure to pay attention to the alders who voted no on banning Chicago police officers from actively participating in extremist and anti-government groups like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers. I'm disappointed as always to see my alderman, Scott Waguespack, among them.

Heather Cherone

BREAKING: The City Council votes 28-21 to approve a measure designed to rid the Chicago Police Department of officers with ties to hate groups and far-right extremist organizations. @wttw.bsky.social
