This is exciting news! I appreciate residents in the 1st ward voting in Ald. La Spata's participatory budgeting process to make this happen. On the other side of North Ave is the 32nd Ward, where I'm seeking to enact a similar process that gives our residents a voice as well.

Cutting funding for evidence-based models like a housing first approach to homelessness is cruel and will exacerbate our already limited resources. We must continue to fight this.

Zohran Mamdani (NYC 2025), Katie Wilson (Seattle 2025), Nithya Raman (LA 2026- advanced to general), and Janeese Lewis George (DC 2026) all embraced progressive YIMBY messaging. It's popular, and candidates in Chicago's 2027 mayoral and city council elections should embrace it.

Chicago needs a citywide network of protected bike lanes. We shouldn't have to rely on ward by ward protections, which results in both inequitable infrastructure distribution and safety gaps on longer trips.

Be sure to pay attention to the alders who voted no on banning Chicago police officers from actively participating in extremist and anti-government groups like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers. I'm disappointed as always to see my alderman, Scott Waguespack, among them.
