anyway, there are a number of valid reasons to dislike nvidia, i just wanted to chime in with my experience if you are just playing games and don't need e.g. dlss then i think amd is probably better right now but if you want to do anything else (e.g. blender) or want dlss nvidia is much better imo

ohhh if you're on bazzite i'm not sure, i remember there being some caveats? also overall it might be a worse experience than amd, i'm not saying you should necessarily go with nvidia but! their linux support is much much better than it used to be, i'm playing games on kde wayland with no issues :)

(on nixos this looks like this) hardware.nvidia.modesetting.enable = true; hardware.nvidia.nvidiaSettings = true; hardware.nvidia.open = true; hardware.nvidia.powerManagement.enable = true; hardware.nvidia-container-toolkit.enable = true;

you may also want to enable the power management stuff (depends on distro) and make sure the GSP is enabled (should be the default) happy to provide specific advice if you need troubleshooting help!! this is just what worked for me

the first step is using the NVIDIA open-gpu-kernel-modules instead of the proprietary drivers. this is already the default on some distros. it requires turing (i.e. RTX 2000) or newer you will also probably want the nvidia-vaapi-driver for VA-API support (has some limitations but overall good!)

there are still some annoyances but the same goes for amd and intel too at this point. amd is still going through the whole hdmi 2.1 thing for example

no it should protect you against that. it just doesn't protect you if you measure it wrong in the second place as well
