No, just especially important in primaries because there are often more than two choices with lots of overlap in positions.

In fairness to home economics, rather than paying an absurd amount for a replacement, I recently repaired the broken stretchy arm band on my heart rate monitor and felt like a bit of gratitude for those middle school sewing lessons.

Also was required to take typing at NYC public middle school. I assume it was in the curriculum like shop classes, part of our industrial education. Some of those legacy courses (home ec, architectural drafting in HS) have not been of much use, but typing has been foundational.

Some polls clearly are junk but better aggregators weight polls by quality. Also, news orgs like NYTimes, CNN, etc have strong reputational incentives for accuracy.

Good question. Polling faces many challenges as landlines are nearly extinct and smartphones have blockers for unknown callers. That said, the underlying science of sampling a population remains sound and we can test polls against elections. On the whole, evidence suggests they’re still meaningful.
