Thanks Amy Campbell and the Echo for reporting my comments on planning lodged today for a new P&R commuter station at Dunkettle. If approved, construction could begin in 2027. In August this year, Cork City Council will open the Glanmire greenway and complete active travel to Dunkettle by October.

Thanks Amy Campbell and the Irish Examiner for reporting the planning application lodged today by Irish Rail for a new P&R at Dunkettle. The new station will be the first P&R on the north side of the city. It will serve commuters in Glanmire too, connected by high-quality active travel this year.

Thanks Elle O'Leary Kelleher and Cork Beo for reporting more great news for Glanmire today — a greenway in August and an expanded John O'Callaghan Park to boot! Cork City Council purchased the training grounds of Riverstown FC (who will move to Brooklodge) to expand the greenway and existing park.

Thanks Kevin Galvin and the Irish Independent for reporting my comments on the new P&R for Dunkettle. The Red Cow P&R is my go-to whenever I need to drive to Dublin. It's safe and convenient. A P&R at Dunkettle has the opportunity to be that for Cork — as well as benefits for local commuters.

Great news! Irish Rail have lodged planning for a P&R at Dunkettle — 300 standard parking spaces and 166 cycle parking, including 42 secure bike lockers. This is the first P&R on the northside and will serve motorists from East Cork/Waterford and the motorway, as well a commuters in Glanmire.

Brilliant little Pride 🏳️‍🌈 festival in Mayfield today — bringing together the whole community with activities for all ages and interests. Big congratulations to everyone who organised, contributed to, helped out at, dropped into, and thought of such a brilliant local idea! 👏👏

Before he scurried away, this propaganda was circulated by the Government to schools from Michael Healy Rae. Himself (surprise-surprise!) who profits from sitka spruce — just as he does whenever he gives his opinion on petrol/diesel or drink driving laws. 📰 www.leitrimobserver.ie/news/leitrim...

The wildfire in Tipperary covered 700 hectares. The smoke could be smelled 100km away at Cork Airport. Fianna Fáil/Fine Gael have spent the summer setting the climate act aside, saying it has been "weaponised" by NGOs.

Absolutely fabulous morning at Tinker's Cross Park with members of the local community for a biodiversity walk — with Cork City Council officials from parks and biodiversity. Thanks to everyone who was able to attend, all who shared the invitation, and officials for their expertise and time. 🐝🌾🦋

"One parent said their 14-year-old son owned a scooter capable of reaching 45kmh ... They said a full-face helmet bought as a condition of getting the scooter 'sits on the handlebar' because the teenager was refusing to wear it." 🚫 14-year-old = illegal 🚫 45km/h = illegal This is already the case.

One I could not miss — 60,000 people in MacHale Park for the Mayo men's senior football team. 👏👏 (Joined also by a special friend of the county in the 🧵...)

Exempting bike sheds from planning (Green Party policy), obviously common sense, where everyone wins. Exempting beds-in-the-shed from planning (Fianna Fáil/Fine Gael policy), a recipe for squalor and exploitation. That's the difference.

Good to see Bicycle Bunkers exempt Have been pushing for this for years! A new exemption will provide for cycle or bin storage at both the front & back of the property, with enough space to hold either 3-4 adult size bicycles, 2 cargo bikes or 3 wheelie bins www.dublininquirer.com/while-cracki...

But ... NGOs and judicial reviews, right?

Exhibit A. Was it weaponised NGOs that did this? Or who was in government all that time?

It's not NGOs that have blocked drinkable water or a basic public transport system for my city - or will blow the chance to cash in on the huge potential for renewable energy along our coast...

It's one year since Tinker's Cross Park opened! To celebrate, the Biodiversity Officer has offered a "biodiversity walk" of the park: 🗓️ 11:00am, Wednesday, 29 July 📍 Tinker's Cross Park (North Ring Road) Come along. Learn about the park's nature. Share your thoughts on its direction forward.

Let's call it early for what it is (having learned the warning signs from other countries): Fianna Fáil/Fine Gael backsliding on the rule of law.

Cork's world famous mosquito continues to attract attention — Thanks John Dolan for mentioning our minuscule mate in a fascinating article in the Echo. The relationship between climate change and certain illnesses is something we have heard also at the Cork City Council Climate Action Committee.
