Neurodivergent biologists exist. There are 23 of us on this manuscript with varying identities, and we are only part of the story. This paper seeks to provide a voice to those who have often not been heard in our field. Many of us also hold intersectional identities.

We cover topics ranging from operating as a neurodivergent biologist on the individual scale to navigating classes as a student or when teaching courses, participating in fieldwork, and action steps for the field to make our spaces more inclusive.

We use qualitative first-hand accounts detailing our experiences as neurodivergent biologists: The joys, the struggles, and suggestions for other neurodivergent biologists and our neurotypical peers.

This idea was sparked two years ago when I was having conversations with @sarahknutie.bsky.social because I wanted to do a roundtable discussion at SICB on neurodivergent identities. Sarah was able to connect me with @taorminalepore.bsky.social who so graciously incorporated me into the symposium.

This is a roundtable discussion as part of mine and @taorminalepore.bsky.social's symposium "Disabled and Neurodivergent Perception, Community, and Identity in the Biosciences" which was held at the @sicb.bsky.social in Portland earlier this year. However, this paper has a longer history than that.
