Probably a combination of all of the above. It's not actually affecting the outcomes or findings of the work, so I don't think it merits making a big deal out of it.

🤷‍♀️ Probably nothing. The paper's out, and I don't think I could convince them to add a corrigendum. I'll probably say something to them next time I'll see them and hope they'll include it if they publish any follow-up.

I was looking at a new paper that came out. It had a map in the discussion showing some things. I'm looking at it, and I can spot some glaring omissions in the Indian Ocean. The thing is, I know for sure one of the authors should know about them - we co-authored several papers on them. #AcademicSky

Even if I'll, by some miracle, manage to publish with a trad publisher and put out multiple wide-circulation books... I don't think I'll ever refer to myself as an author. It feels wrong to me to self-claim that; rather, it just feels like a title people should give you. #WritingCommunity

Sometimes, in the near future, I want to do an entire week of posting about scientific papers that fall into the #SciFiScience box. Things like emerging and speculative tech, as well as science that can feed into worldbuilding or #Writing SFF. Feel free to suggest ideas; I'll try to look into them.

I think that for gas giants, the big hurdle is to get to the point where lipids aggregate to form vesicles. If you can't get a container, you can't get any of the cellular machinery to form. Without the polarity of water, there is no water for those shells to form.

That's less of an issue overall; you can balance energy availability with total biomass (to a level). Unless you want to play with a really energy-starved system like rogue planets and such.

Our sample size in the solar system is ~10 (depending on the side threshold), and only two of them are >10,000 km in diameter (Earth and Venus). Then there is some modeling work. Between these, it's not really conclusive.
