After watching all of the John Wick films and some Monty Oum videos, I think I've found a heuristic for rating action scenes: Chekhov's Guns per Second: Count how many times something you can see in the room is used later as part of the fight choreography, then divide it by the length of the movie.

Here's a pretty subtle lighting change between vanilla and the Dark Souls remaster: They made the exit to the Asylum Demon's room a little brighter by adding a point light floating in front of it. It illuminates the doorway itself a bit better, and also lights the ground in front of it.

Also yes you should play Dark Souls, if for no other reason then to experience a massively influential game for yourself! There are things I like and don't like about it, but just about everybody comes away from it with several strong opinions 😂

I did my best to do that kinda world design for Void Sols! It's doable, but really tough with a top down perspective. We got a lot of mileage out of our elevator system, since it allowed us to have rooms on top of each other for some verticality.

I remember reading that because animation used to be so expensive, scenes could get up to 30-40 rewrites to justify the animation cost. Gotta make sure it's all A material before rendering it in exhausting detail, I suppose!

I think I'm finally at a point in my life where I can understand and appreciate where all the hype for classic Simpsons comes from. There's not a word of wasted dialogue, it's just a constant barrage of the funniest writing you've ever heard 😆
