just got a text update from Amtrak. part of delay is weather related.

and there it went, so now can we go?

we are stopped near La Cueva, not sure why. there's another track, so maybe waiting for a train going the other way to pass us?

still seeing big flashes over the Sangre de Christos, hearing thunder

starting to rain on the train

coming into Glorieta, waving! Train sure slowed down going uphill out of Lamy. Big dark clouds, raining heavily off to the west, lightning!

here we go!

and up to Denver!

found the lounge car, got a seat on the shady side. departure is imminent

I just hope my chronically sore hips don't lock up. Brought ibuprofen and a physical therapy band.

looking forward to Raton Pass. then lots of Kansas, throwback to my Nebraska youth

shoot. I had the wrong time in my head. train doesn't depart until 11:30, so here I sit, listening to the guy across the aisle chatting on the phone. if it gets juicy, I will live-skeep it.

29 hours to Chicago with a 1 hour connection to Milwaukee. I plan to stroll around as needed to stretch out.

on the train, departing in 20 minutes for Chicago. Hope I can sleep leaning on the window. The 2 guys across from me brought tons of food ; one has a cooler. I brought snacks, plan to hit the diner car.

just boarded Amtrak in ABQ. departing for Chicago in 30 minutes, then short connection to Milwaukee. This train is a LOT bigger than the Rail Runner commuter line up to Santa Fe.

Damn, glad it didn’t happen. I would be a mass of quaking adrenalin after that.

The only way to stay safe from lightning strikes is to not be outside in a thunderstorm. All those tips about finding a low spot, or a cave, or throwing all your metal gear a distance from your hiding place, will not save you. This is so sad.
