Sun & Mon July 26th & 27th 2026, find @potsofhistory.bsky.social and I @vindolandatrust.bsky.social Vindolanda Roman Fort, demonstrating Roman pottery making technology. It'll be the first outing for my conjectural reconstruction of a potential potters wheel found in the North Field.

Today was very busy in Crown Studio Gallery, with lots of holidaymakers as customers. But I still managed to complete this small painting of the walk to Dunstanburgh Castle from Craster.

A pen and ink drawing by one of my sons in law.... This was created years ago, but seems increasingly pertinent.

Whenever I open the cash drawer in Crown Studio Gallery, and see King Charles' face peering up at me from one of the new ten pound notes, I can't help thinking he looks thoroughly offended to have been shut in there....

Today's small painting is the last in my current Bamburgh series (for now). It's a subject I often return to because I love the apparent solidity of the castle, surrounded by sea, sky and sand that are always in a state of flux.

The next small painting in my Bamburgh Castle series is finished. Of the same day as the previous work, but with the Castle closer. As with all of my small paintings, it's 125mm square and will be window mounted, then framed in a solid oak frame. crownstudiogallery.myshopify.com/collections/...

From necessity, I usually get to the coast after finishing work, so it's always about 6pm... I guess people with families are feeding and preparing children for bed at that time. So it's mostly dog walkers by then.
