A co-chair of the fringe DSA recently went on Fox and spouted loony nonsense (abolishing the Senate etc.) as the democratic socialist platform. Fox, of course, is elated, and does everything it can to conflate the DSA's loony positions with mainstream democratic socialist policies like Mamdani's.

You don't need to be in the DSA (or, if we study history, the Socialist Party, IWW, CPUSA, or SDS, etc.) to be in favor of strong collective bargaining laws, workers' rights, wage and hour laws, workplace safety, and equality of opportunity.

Surprise isn't the issue. The issue is that the DSA is a fringe group pretending not to be. It's effectively a sock puppet for right-wing media, which is delighted to conflate DSA's loony positions (as articulated by Romer) with Democratic Party and mainstream democratic socialist positions.

My point was that DSA is a fringe group that is far smaller than even Jill Stein's movement at its peak. Fox "News" is elated at its batshit crazy platform, which they will conflate with mainstream Democratic positions. Mandami's million votes were NOT votes for DSA. DSA is political poison.

Actually I just checked - should have done that before posting. DSA has only about 1/8 as many supporters as Jill Stein at her peak.

Oh, I'm sure they voted for the co-chairs and the platform. But their total membership is about 100k, basically nothing in national politics - akin to the Jill Stein supporter numbers. Fringe group of political nudniks that can only do damage to the Democrats.

As mentioned in my first post, I had never heard of these people. I consider them a fringe group, and yes, it seems pretty obvious that they want to inflict as much damage as possible on the Democratic Party. The DSA "leadership" is effectively campaigning for the GOP.
