Keeps writing new bios late at night. PhD from CUNY in English. Writing a book on nostalgia in fantasy fic. Writing about genre at Unwinnable. Writing music as Bunny Petite. NYC lifer.

I’m too emotionally withholding to get AI psychosis. Cold women stay winning.

Forget 90s parenting, embrace lefty 60s parenting (Abiyoyo group sing).

That is now three articles I’ve read in the last month where someone’s mysterious chronic pain is solved by finally seeing a doctor who doesn’t take insurance. Cool.

Young man biking by said “you have a beautiful face” and I really hope he was talking to me and not my kid, but either way it was a weird move! The couple standing next to me agreed it was weird and that they couldn’t tell who he was talking to.

The song of the summer is, as always, Careless Whisper blasted out a car window.

You also need to prove primary residence yearly to live in affordable housing. Sides of the same coin.

My kid loves this song, we call it the dragon dance

I love that when the Men are getting drunk with Merry and Pippin in RETURN OF THE KING, the Hobbits are like “let’s sing our favorite jingles for local businesses in the Shire”

Bought three different kinds of tofu and beef hot dogs.

Ironically this inspired me to put a hold at the library on a Spider-Man comic for the first time in like, 15 years?

a little bit of personal lore: my culture writing career began with a cranky blog about spider-man. for Fansplaining, I imagine the end of that career, with another blog about spider-man fansplaining.com/what-spider-...

This doesn’t come up in the essay, but the couple in “This is the Bread I Baked for Ned” are definitely swingers and I think that’s beautiful for them.

"Many picture books exist to reflect or explain children’s own world to them... It is rarer to find a book for children this young that gives some insight into the different ways there are to be an adult." @nochshorn.bsky.social on a different sort of kids book.

My kid keeps bragging about how many people came to his birthday party which is hilarious because he spent the whole party alone drinking seltzer.

I actually disagreed with most of Wilson’s pan but this is very funny writing and also gets at the biggest issue with that movie.

Now get the Station 11 team to adapt Pattern Recognition.

As a kid my pop told me he wasn’t interested in Star Wars after the first big ship went overhead because it was just reproducing capitalism in space.

The thing that struck me most during last night's big-screen rewatch of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY was how oddly unimaginative the social arrangements of the "future" are Like so much sf, it's just "what if our current societal norms/accents/arguments/tics, but in spaaaaaace???" I still love it tho

000

I had a lot of fun at The Odyssey and I wish it had followed through a little more on some of the darker, interesting ideas it kept dancing all around. Especially the framing with Calypso frustrated. Having no sense of their relationship when it was happy felt cowardly, and gave Theron nothing to do

So… Lestat killed Paul right?
