i think that plays in tandem with understanding the dynamics of the table you're at - there are certain Strictly Better cards that I refuse to play in commander (hate them in bracket 3 or less, and they don't contribute to the game in 4 or greater) just due to how the impact the table vibe

Thats just true. An individual person is at the helm of their own desire as to whether they *need* the new stuff or are content with what they have. Factored depending on play group and enthusiasm for said new cards.
