Same here. All I can do is appreciate the original series for what it was, hold on to the feelings it gave me at the time without letting bitterness take over, and try and avoid the mistakes the franchise made like the plague

I think the key difference is that the original series, despite being undeniably orientalist, still went the extra mile of doing meticulous research on clothing, architecture, script, and spirituality of the cultures they were borrowing from An extra mile they are clearly no longer willing to walk.

Contrast is actually really important for appeal. Not just contrast between your characters and their timing, but also within the scenes, sequences and overall season. If you pump everything up to 12/10 right out of the gate you have to stay there and people expect you to keep going.
