Felt like this was a bit off-vibe for me when I posted it, since I generally try to keep my shit uplifting, but now I'm realizing it's just a place for me to keep a specific, growing, genre of news about the men (and it's usually men) who've gone fully mask-off in their contempt for the rest of us.

The romance in my "cozy T4T eggfic wish fulfillment" novel revolves around a character doing something that I'd feel too morally compromised to do if I were in her situation: dating the egg she just cracked. Is the yuri in it toxic enough to escape this trap? You'll have to read it to find out! 😈

When I was a freshman in highschool I got to sit in on a writing workshop led by Ray Bradbury. He said many interesting things, but the advice that stuck with me was that a writer's job is to "collect metaphors" from the world. That writing couldn't happen without living. I think about that a lot.

Being a relationship anarchist is like an advanced version of this, because polycules & intimate connections are a living laboratory for understanding a diverse range of human reactions to the same life circumstances. When I meet someone new I get 5-7 different perspectives on them.

People are so endlessly interesting and real people are so much weirder and more complex than the fictional ones who would live in my head if I was just drawing on my own experiences. The more "unbelievable" a character's story is in my writing the more likely it's from someone I know.

I love that I know exactly who to call if I need info about Japanese grammatical gender. I know exactly who to talk to if I want to learn more about living with HIV, or being unhoused in the Midwest, or working for NASA. I know who to talk to about being put under a psychiatric hold, or making porn.

This is such good advice! Not only does the Friend Research Network usually deliver the goods faster & better than online search, but it doesn't suffer from genAI info-rot & training bias. And as a bonus, your FRN is filled with delicious quirks & character details when fleshing out your cast!

I love that! I used to research embodied interaction and phenomenology so when I fell down the rabbit hole of neurodivergence, trauma, brain chemistry, and nervous system responses I already had a conceptual framework for it. Generally fascinated by the vast possibility space of human experience.

Okay, yeah....that's fair. My autistic hyperfocus makes me good at picking up new creative skills when sufficiently motivated, and my ADHD novelty craving means I've never met a creative skill that I didn't want to learn at least enough to understand how hard it would be to master.😅

I'd love to be included in that! I'm a neurodivergent with neurodivergence as a special interest, and a multidisciplinary artist (composer, novelist, poet, game designer, illustrator, ink maker, actual player, and scholar.) I left my tenured R1 Associate Professor job to make art full time in 2023!

I'm not nearly as skilled at wheel throwing, sculpture, & pottery as my wife. But I made these two pieces that I just got back from the kiln today & I'm really proud of them! The Ramen bowl is probably the most difficult form I've thrown & the wonky vase works surprisingly well for pens & brushes!

Look, I'm not a violent person. But when the members of the ruling class begin proposing measures that make it clear they view the rest of us as disposable & subhuman—when they close all nonviolent paths to survival for the vast majority of us, what's left but to treat them as an existential threat?

Two years ago, walking around WorldCon, I got blank stares from a lot of folks when my answer to their question of "what do you write?" was "speculative poetry". Today we're one step closer to a permanent Hugo Award for Poetry!🎉🎉 I'm so grateful to the folks who've made this a reality!
