Having given this careful consideration, I conclude that it is either a tiny hole in the cans (maybe caused by the acid in the drink eventually corroding it) that mean the contents slowly evaporate over an extended period of time (after the gas escapes), or a family of Borrowers nicking your drinks.
Don't pick a beer for 'cultural weight', pick a beer for taste (or, if they're all the same to you, price). You'll get more respect as an honest 'Ruddles at Spoons' or 'cooking lager' drinker than trying to drink something 'cool' (that's probably a UK 'lite' version anyway: camra.org.uk/beer-report)
