So glad we've given even more billions to the LAPD instead of anything else.

Alex

An officer reported other cops for using racist, sexist and homophobic slurs at work, filed an Internal Affairs complaint & submitted recordings of the other cops being bigoted as evidence b/c otherwise nothing would be done about it. He’s now charged with 16 felonies & could get 13 years in prison.

Really trying to be less reactionary and more compassionate. A creator I really like did a vid about how her body has changed due to a hysterectomy last year and she was apologizing if her body triggered people, but she was in pain and is healthier now. Broke my heart she felt she had to apologize.

I think it's really indicative of the predatory nature of this "tech". The entire "efficiency" grift aspect is a gateway for certain personality traits. And not to excuse it, but he recently survived cancer and people are VERY vulnerable after that kind of trauma.

Mike Riverso

His statement makes it clear that his family had a literal intervention with him. Which, honestly, points to the fact that heavy AI is essentially a drug. I honestly hope this story serves to highlight that fact for other people too deep in it.

My mom, who just had breast cancer (she is cancer free after her mastectomy) had whooping cough as a kid and still considers it one of the most terrifying illnesses of her life.

Keezy Young🌼

fuck even I couldn't get vaccinated against whooping cough because I had a reason l reaction to the first dose (I am now, they've changed the formulation). whooping cough is almost never deadly *if you're vaccinated* but absolutely can be if you're not

This is me. And if you call me a Luddite over it prepare to be told, in specifics, why the Luddites Were Right, Actually and not anti-tech.

Not only do I not use ChatGPT, but I still don’t know how to get to it, I don’t want to know, and I have no interest in even learning. I consider this to be one of my better qualities even though it sounds extremely “I don’t even OWN a TV”

I am personally sad about the H Green situation. I think the things he's worked on have been done with a real sense of wanting to share & educate. But like a lot of really intelligent people who have a lot of privilege & occupy a space with tech folks, the "AI" temptation can worm in really easily.

I think the obsequiousness of these things is part of what bumps me SO HARD on their obvious toxicity. Fawning "compliments" are not actually compliments, they're manipulation, and I personally don't respond well to that in any context. It makes me feel weird and creeped out.

CZEdwards

THIS. People educated enough in the specific subject to pull the data together don’t need LLMs; people without the knowledge to weed data from the bullshit are at the mercy of the LLM. They’re obsequious Dunning-Kruger machines. Designed to flatter midwits and the technologically obsolete.

I view people being susceptible to "AI" stuff the same way as I view being susceptible to propaganda. Literally any of us can fall victim to these kinds of things -especially- when we think we're immune. And if you have, say, white male privilege? Even more susceptible than you think.

Whew! For the first time all summer the kiddo wanted to go to the park, in the morning no less. Thankfully she was done before it really gets hot but also it was nice to just get out and wander. We've been doing daily swims which are great but honestly walks are my all time fave movement.

I am DYING. Apparently you can't just like a thing and find it fun to read anymore. Or like, be horny and like a horny story. Also, pretty sure reading about "Westeros" a fictional fantasy world had nothing to do with fear about the future but ok.

"if lustful romance is more your thing (very much not mine), then your insecurities are more likely to be about your relationships, both romantic and platonic, and your thoughts on social status and reputation" writes man terrified that anyone might think he reads romance.

This has been my question. It's one thing to get fooled by the text although so far everything I've seen of this type has been very obvious. But how is the rest of this happening?

KJ Charles

So...the book was worth $2.5million...but the bidders hadn't actually read the manuscript?? the agents hadn't read it? How tf do you get to a 14-way auction for millions and *then* turn round to say "terrible prose, reads like slop"?

This is an all time fave.

Literally Knives Out: Glass Onion dude reasoning. Ugh.

Dr. Erika Graham-Goering

'Anthropic described the project as “our effort to disruptively scan all the world’s books” in an internal memo, which noted “we do not want it to be known that we are pursuing this project”.'

Yeah, this is like the rest of the propaganda around it. They want it to sound like the "AI" acted independently. Just like all the ones claiming Terminator is any day now, it's calculated PR. The threat is the same: human hubris and error.

Anthony B,

In @karlbode.com's scathing write-up of the "OpenAI rogue hacker" marketing stunt, he highlights the underreported detail that this extremely responsible AI company ran their exploit kit with safety guardrails disabled. Once again, I ask: why haven't they been charged? karlbode.com/ai-doomsday-...
