I reread it ahead of this movie. I was most struck by the whims of the gods and the rules of hospitality. I can't stop rethinking some hospitality I've enjoyed in the homes of Russians, Indians, and West Africans and wondering if I've been a bad host all my life (and whether I've offended the gods)

But Sophocles isn't the source material here. I'm delighted to learn some people are as possessive of Homer's work as they are JK Rowling's.

People can still enjoy the movie as a summer blockbuster and agree it reflects the source material about as well as Gnomio & Juliet.

I read her review not as questioning Odysseus' ethics, but as questioning Nolan's as an adaptor of an ancient text.
