It wasn't a fave of mine. Now... It definitely hits.

We also had imagination, long form reading, history lessons via old films (there was nothing else on), safety to go ride a bike all day, games we made up ourselves, forts we built in the back yard, learned lessons by falling down & getting back up again. And IRL situational awareness was developed.

And those were great reading for those days!

There were both. And they showed (surprise!) black and white movies on TV - even color ones! In fact, I bet you can find black and white movies on color TVs today! And many kids got the cheap black and white TVs for their rooms because they were smaller, cheaper & easy to take away as punishment.

I'm thinking you weren't really a kid any more at that time, so it's not a comparison. Enjoy that card.😜

You in fact *are* a boomer. I'm Gen-X. My memories of childhood are very different. There was a lot of joy in empty time. I'm glad you're involved in your community, but every minute of the day doesn't need to be planned, on a screen or organized in *any* way. Independent thought stems from freedom.

I think that's why by the 70s/80s, the new rule was "go outside and don't come home until the street lights turn on." LOL

And you didn't have to look at websites to.... self discover.

It was cheaper to access for a second TV in a kid's room. Cost wise.

Those of us who survived wouldn't trade the freedom we had for cleaner air at the time. I mean we tried to listen to Smokey the Bear and be good citizens about pollution. We watched the native American crying over pollution on television. But as kids we had no control over what was in the air.

They still sold them..
