There’s an author, TL Huchu, who I think has never written a book I’d deem to be perfect but has, perhaps more than any other author I’ve read as an adult, transformed how I look at and understand the world. Nolan’s films look progressive because they’re all essentially about the terror of an ambitious white man - but they resonate with conservatism in that he’s also somewhat incapable of imagining a solution to that terror that isn’t also an ambitious white man, Tenet excepted.

I get sad that people do not understand that all things die and disappear. It is not a tragedy for things to vanish from history. The tragedy lies in what is kept alive beyond its time and what renewal is prevented by our conduct. That’s the crime. That’s the atrocity. Messing with the continuum.

It is funny that data centres are like supposed to be the bedrock of the new economy but data itself is treated like absolute dogshit and anything that creates/gathers data is aggressively defunded. Data centres are not data centres. They are empty temples to pray to god for more money.

One thing I think he misjudged tho - he thinks humans are going to win climate change. That all the life will die except humans and it’ll just be a desert. And, man, the version of nature we know will die. But, no way it dies before we do. Nature adapts to nuclear fallout at speed. Nature will win.
